About

Alex is a data scientist working at the intersection of multimodal AI, agentic systems, and real-world monitoring. Originally from Barcelona, he holds a BSc in Data Science from UPC, with research experience at EPFL, and is currently finishing a MSc in Management, Technology and Economics at ETH Zurich. Before joining ASL, Alex worked as a computer vision engineer at Mediapro’s AutomaticTV, where he developed real-time systems for object detection, tracking, and event detection in videos. He also gained experience building industrial AI agents and large-scale RAG systems at the Swiss AI startup Gieni AI. This background gives him a practical perspective on multimodal AI: not only as a modeling problem, but as a systems problem involving noisy data, real constraints, and operational deployment. At ASL, his research focuses on agentic multimodal systems for proactive monitoring and predictive maintenance in environments such as greenhouses, factories, and infrastructure operations. In practice, this involves agents that integrate heterogeneous data sources: images, sensors, documents, and tables. Beyond applied AI, Alex is interested in how AI systems can be designed and deployed safely, fairly and for purposes beyond economic value. He is actively researching on LLM and agentic alignment, with focus on ethical and societal considerations.
